Short of time? Use this 3-step game plan from an ex-productivity coach

Hey friend,

Last week was THE MOST EXCITING week of my life.

Without getting into the details because it’ll take too long…

I’m getting keys to my new home after a 4.5-year wait (good news.)

And thanks to some unexplainable traditions, I’m rushed to have my wedding on 31 March (bad news because I’ve 10% of the time to prepare for an event that usually takes 12 months.)

Just yesterday, I had zero idea how I was gonna plan for a wedding, kickstart, and oversee the renovation process, while not sacrificing my business building.

It kinda feels like I’m back to building with a job except this is worse.

If you’re an OG, you know I had a stint being a productivity coach. So I coached myself today.

In case you’re pressed for time like me, here’s the game plan:

1/ Identify your goals for the month

You need to start with the end in mind.

Your monthly goals will guide your daily actions. Without it, you might be engaging in pointless tasks.

Here are 3 of mine so I won't bore you with the whole list:

  1. Write 25 Medium articles.
  2. Write 2 tweets/day - 2x31 days = 62 tweets.
  3. Write 2 funnel breakdowns each week for Trident Digital (my email marketing agency.)

Noticed these goals didn’t say things like “Make $x from Medium” or “Onboard 2 new clients”.

Those are not within my control.

Input-based goals work better than output-based goals because they’re within my control.

And actions are leading indicators to results.

2/ What can be eliminated?

Look through the list and identify which goals are good to have but aren’t as impactful.

When you’re pressed for time, you needa pick your best soldiers.

I chose to reduce from 2 tweets/day to 1/day because my 𝕏 doesn’t bring me any economic value.

After this step, you should have a refined list of input goals you have for the month.

Most people think being productive means doing more, more, more.

But the truth is… the most productive thing you can do is to eliminate the need to do a task.

Do less, get more. That’s productivity.

3/ Decide when you’ll work on your input goals

AND PROTECT IT LIKE IT’S YOUR NEWBORN BABY.

Say if morning is your prime focus hours, you’d wanna work in the morning.

As much as possible, allocate meetings after morning. That way, you’re securing some work time each day.

E.g.

  • I met the wedding venue planner on Monday at 1:30pm.
  • I arranged the key collection for Tuesday 12:15pm.

(I wrote this on Sunday night.)

My fiancé wanted to do this stuff in the morning. I love you BUT NO.

In the case of a 9-5, work on your business in the morning before work. If you wanna work AND hang out on the weekends, don’t let people invade your morning hours.

In 3 simple steps, you have your monthly goals, refined monthly input goals, and a dedicated daily window in which you’ll work on those goals.

All that’s left to do is show up each day and get crackin’.

You might drop the balls on some days, that’s normal. But return to it as soon as you can.

Remember, actions are leading indicators of your results.

Wanna grow a 10k/mo biz? Focus on the actions you can take today.

My fav content this week:

Once I learned how to visualize correctly, I became a millionaire (the truth)

Visualization is a controversial topic. Some swear by it while others think it’s woo-woo. I believe there are forces in the universe that we don’t understand. Yet you can’t just sit there and imagine without putting in the work.

This is the most structured video on visualization I’ve seen. If it’s something you’re interested in, this will help clarify the process of visualization.

1 Question for you:

Good questions lead to meaningful thoughts and actions. So my question this week is:

What are your actions moving you closer to?

I have a confession. Ever since I came back from Japan, my routines were thrown off. I got back into my deep work mornings (duh) because I felt like I lost out on time and progress while I was slurping Ramen in Osaka. (Logically I know it’s not true because I benefitted from stepping away for 2 weeks) BUT I’ve been slacking off with my evening habits. In case you’re wondering what’s on the menu… Meditation Visualisation Journaling Reading So wholesome right? 😬 Well, they’re good habits as we...

Hey friend, Today I wanna talk about Mr Beast’s formula for success and extract ideas for you. In case you’re unfamiliar with Mr Beast… He’s only 25 years old. He accumulated 44,920,649,815 views. He has 245 million YouTube subs, making him the 2nd most subscribed channel. ABSOLUTE BEAST. No pun intended (don’t tell me you believed that.) So how did he win YouTube and what can we learn from him? There are 3 pieces to the puzzle: Attract attention, keep attention, deliver. The start For...

Hey friend, Hope last week’s been well for you. It’s safe to say last week was the most “exciting” week of my 26 years of life. Things are moving real fast in my personal life. I entered my new (and bare af) house for the first time — 4.5 years wait for this moment. It feels surreal to be a home owner + have a mortgage to pay for now. Who wants a video?! 🙋♂️🙋♀️ And we’ve made massive progress in our wedding planning despite countless headaches. There were many heart attack moments but...
